Sponsorship FAQ
Being sponsored isn't what skateboarding is all about . Sure it's great and has it's benefits . But don't be misled that you have to be sponsored to enjoy skateboarding . The most important thing to do is to relax and have fun . Skate because you have a love for skateboarding and it will show . When you skate because you have a love for it , it shows . So show some love and enjoy yourself .
We here at Scientifik Skateboards don't sponsor random submissions out of the blue or random amateurs etc . What we do is however . We keep our eyes and ears open for any positive feedback be it from one of our friends , a team rider or one of the scientifik crew who spot you when your ripping .
So the best advice we can give you to get noticed would be as follow's
Start by learning new tricks . Skateboarders who are sponsored can do a lot of different tricks, and ride a variety of spots .
So , skate everyday , everywhere and everything . The more you skate , the more you will improve and become more consistent . Try to get yourself to many different skate parks so you can familiarize yourself with having to take on different courses etc . It is also a great way to see new places and meet new people .
Once you are comfortable you should then start to enter competitions . This will help you to get noticed by companies where as if you don't win or place right away . Keep at it . This is where being visible as a driving or positive force in skateboarding as a whole always works . Whether it is by magazine coverage or by word getting back to the sponsor through their team, the sponsor will generally find out and approach you.
Make sure that you aren't cocky and arrogant . Companies who want to sponsor you will want someone who is fun to work with and someone who is friendly . Do your best to curb your ego and relax . Remember , it's all about fun .
It also helps if you can improve your image. You will be representing companies who will sponsor you . So take a look at the image that company has and make sure you suit .
A sponsor me tape simply won't cut it . Unless your the next Tony Hawk or Rodney Mullen , vid's don't justify your skating as it would in real life .
If you were to submit a video , it's best to advise you submit your best tricks in a run where there is no editing or break in the filming . This gives the sponsor an idea as to your consistency , a 1 to 2 min run is plentiful . Still a video isn't going to guarantee you a sponsorship .
So, basically, don't bother thinking about it . If your sole purpose is to get sponsored ,it won't happen . But if you have a good mental attitude and truly love and live for skateboarding, you never know your luck , and you never know who maybe watching .
